History: The Australian Colonies
Key Inquiry Question 1:
What do we know about the lives of people in Australian colonial past and how do we know?
To answer this inquiry question, you are going to complete a case study!
This case study requires you to develop a historical understanding by researching sources of information, exploring different lives and perspectives of colonial people and the significance they played in shaping the colony. You will inquire and investigate the role that a significant individual played in shaping the colony including aspects of the daily life of this individual in terms of clothing, diet, leisure, paid and unpaid work, language, housing and childrens' lives'.
The Task:
There are 9 questions to refer to. For each question you are to research and provide evidence for your presentation.
Use the given information along with other appropriate websites, books and articles write your information into your workbook before creating your final presentation.

Final assessment presentation which is due at the end of the Term will be presented using either:
1. Prezi, Powerpoint or Vimeo or Story-board/Digital Storytelling (Choose ONE)
2. Mock up an interview with someone (or another student) as the interviewer
3. On a learning centre on a piece of cardboard

Questions to research:
- Who is your chosen individual?
- What were their roles and responsibilities e.g. work or education?
- Did they migrate from another country? If so, where from and why?
- What did they live in and who did they live with?
- What did they eat
- What did they wear?
- What equipment or tools did they use?
- How did they travel?
- What did they do in their free time e.g. play games, music, dance, tell stories?
- What problems might they have faced in their roles and responsibilities?
- ‘My life is tougher than yours’. Refer to other colonial people you could have chosen. Do you think your colonial person had a tougher life than them? Why?
- How was your chosen individual significant in shaping the colony?
