Create a proposal using a report and model for the installment of a pool at school

to form a detailed report and create a 3D model of the pool.
Your aim is to create a report and model worthy enough to pitch your idea to Ms Wilson when you get back to school!
The Task Explained:
Planning your Proposal
A proposal is another type of persuasive text. The goal of a proposal is to gain support for your plan by informing the appropriate people. In this case it is Ms Wilson who makes the big decisions at Yagoona Public School.
Your ideas or suggestions are more likely to be approved if you can communicate them in a clear, concise, engaging manner.
Knowing how to write a persuasive proposal is essential for success in many fields.
Here are the basic guidelines:
Step 1
Plan Your Proposal
Know your audience- in this case its Ms Wilson.
What does she know about the school?
What background information does she need to know?
What does she want to hear?
How will you talk to her?
Define your issue. Make it clear to the reader what it is you want.
E.g., Yagoona Public School needs a swimming pool. Be specific- what type of swimming pool, why and who will use it?
Define the solution.
This is where the maths comes into your report.
Where will you build it? What will it look like?
Refer to the possible areas of investigation
This is where you include diagrams.
Many proposals include pictures or even models to help their audience imagine how great it will look.
This can be very convincing!
Your finishing statement. This is just a brief summary of how necessary your project is.
Think about the bigger picture of having a swimming pool and what it could mean for your future!
Exaggerated example!
Having a swimming pool can teach you how to swim.
You will be safe because you will avoid drowning in the future.
You will also be healthier and ready to learn.
You will therefore be smarter and stronger.
You will therefore be a happier and more successful person in life.
In the future when you have a successful business empire and more money than you know what to do with you will think about Ms Wilson with happiness and thank her for approving the swimming pool. It changed your life!
This is an exaggeration but you can investigate statistics or scientific information on the positive effects of learning how to swim.
Modelled Proposal
Example Theme: Ninja Warrior Course
1. Know your audience
Ms Wilson
* Is in charge of the school so is the person I need to convince.
*She manages the school so it works. She gets things fixed and she keeps the kids safe.
*What does she want? Ms Wilson wants the kids to be safe, happy and doing lots of learning.
*How will you talk to her? Like someone who knows what they are talking about. Not a little kid wanting a toy from the shops. E.g. “It is essential that students at Yagoona Public School have the opportunity to access a ninja warrior course everyday so they can enjoy themselves while learning.”
Not “I want a ninja warrior course so we can have fun”
2. Define your issue
The students of Yagoona Public School are missing out. Assessment results show that students are falling short of their potential. They are not the healthy, happy, learners that you want them to be. Instead they are growing bored, unhealthy and lazy. This is because of a lack of challenging sports equipment at our school. A Ninja Warrior Course at Yagoona Public School is the answer to this problem.
3. Maths section
Maps, calculations, diagrams etc.
